Ciutadella

Ciutadella is a city with a rich history dating back to the Talayotic era. Its name comes from the Latin "Civitatella," meaning "little city." During the Arab rule, it was known as Medina Minurqa, and after the Christian reconquest, it adopted its current name. The city features significant historical monuments such as the Cathedral of Santa María, built in the 13th century on the site of an ancient mosque. This cathedral is a magnificent example of Gothic architecture.

The most notable festivals in Ciutadella are the Fiestas de Sant Joan, which take place on June 23 and 24. These traditional celebrations include horses, medieval games, and lively street parties. Another point of interest is Lithica, an old quarry transformed into a labyrinth of gardens and cultural spaces. Also worth a visit are the Cala Morell necropolis, with its prehistoric burial caves, and the Teatro de Es Born, an elegant 19th-century building. The Círculo Artístico de Ciutadella is a cultural center that hosts exhibitions, concerts, and other artistic events.

Ciutadella is the only municipality in Menorca with beaches and coves on the north, west, and south of the island. Some of the most notable beaches are:
