History of Sant LLuis

Sant Lluis is a municipality located in the southeastern part of Menorca, founded in 1761 by order of King Fernando VI of Spain. Its name derives from King Louis I of France, who was reigning during its construction. The municipality was designed as a model of Enlightenment urban planning, featuring a grid layout and a central square, characteristics that are still evident today. San Luis was established primarily for settlers from other Mediterranean islands and became an important agricultural center in Menorca.
